Jim Young, BC-HIS #386

Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist

James Young is a second-generation hearing aid dispenser who has been actively dispensing in North Carolina for forty-three years.  He currently oversees a dispensership with eight full-time offices and three satellite offices serving fifteen counties.  Jim chaired the committee that guided the NC Lions Foundation in establishing the NC Lions Club Hearing Aid Bank in the early 1990’s.  He also helped establish the Apprentice Tutoring Sessions in 1991 for the North Carolina Association of Hearing Care Professionals.  These training sessions help prepare an apprentice in passing the NC Board’s dispensing license exam.  Jim had been the instructor for most of these Tutoring Sessions when they began but has resigned from teaching in North Carolina.  Subsequently, he taught apprentices in the state of Georgia for ten years.  Jim has served the North Carolina Association of Hearing Care Professionals as vice-president for two years and as president for four years during the 1990’s.  He was appointed by Governor Pardue in 2009 to serve on the NC State Hearing Aid Dealers & Fitters Board which is the state Board that governs the dispensing of hearing aids.  He served for seven years on the Board, three of those as President of the Board.

Jim has made many friends over the four decades that he has been helping people to a better quality of life.  His patients are like family to him.  He also enjoys gardening and keeping beehives.
